Population and Sample

A population is a group of people, objects or events having the same characteristics.

A sample is a subgroup of a population

A sample is representative when all the characteristics of the population can be found in the sample in the same proportions


Statistical Studies

A census concerns every member of a population

A poll uses data derived from a sample to draw conclusions about an entire population

A survey often involves experts with data gathered from various sources.
